We Could Find Intelligent Life By 2040


Seth Shostak of SETI (Search For Extraterrestial Intelligence) has made the bold claim that he thinks we will discover intelligent life on a distant exoplanet by 2040. The reason behind this claim is due partly to the Kepler mission discovering that Earth like planets are plentiful in the Milky Way and also due to the fact that by then we will have scanned around a million star systems. The snag to this is that it would require continued funding for the SETI projects which at the moment is a constant problem.
