Voyager’s Image of the Great Red Spot in Full Colour

Voyagers Great Red Spot.jpg

This is a spectacular image of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot. It was taken by Voyager 1 in 1979. Hang on that isn’t news I hear you say. The image was constructed from three black and white negatives and released by NASA recently. The Great Red Spot is a storm that has been raging on Jupiter for a long time and it is huge. To give some sense of scale, the Great Red Spot is three and half times the size of Earth. Imagine standing in that. It is so big you can see it in small telescopes with a good eye.
