The Beauty of The Milky Way Revealed

Glowing jewels in the Galactic Plane node full image.jpg

This image above taken as part of Hi-GAL and the ESA’s Herschel Space Observatory shows the disc of our Milky Way in infrared. This image that spans an area of sky some 24 times that of the moon’s diameter. The interstellar gas is clearly seen and the areas where the gas has condensed and given birth to new stars can be seen in the violet and green areas. The tiny white spots are gas clouds that have condensed and are likely to give birth to new stars. Seeing our galaxy in different wavelength spectrums really brings out the incredible nature of this city of stars we call the Milky Way.
