SWARM spacecrafts settling in to measure the Earths magnetic field

The ESA has three satellites the job of which will be to measure Earth’s changing magnetic field. The satelliltes are now being carefully steered into their respective orbits around Earth. The project aims to measure the separate magnetic signals coming from various sources on the Earth and then be able to distinguish between the Sun’s effect on our magnetic field from changes occurring from within the Earth. Important information as the magnetic field is crucial to lisfe on Earth by protecting us from the charged particles of the solar wind.
