Swarm Releases An App

Swarm Releases An App

Swarm satellites.jpg

The ESA’s Swarm mission launched in Nov 2013. It comprises of three satellites that measure the Earth’s magnetic field. The mission is so accurate it should help us to determine exactly how our protective magnetic field is generated and why it changes. The changes usually meander around the North pole but every 100 thousand years or so the polarity completely flips. This would mean that your compass would start pointing South not North. To follow the mission and learn more you can now download an app for iphone and Android.

A lovely picture of the Aurora and the spacecraft, that looks to unlock its secrets, together.
