Latest Image of Centaurus A Shows Old Collision With a Galaxy

Centaurus A Jet.jpg

NASA’s Chandra X-ray Telescope has been taking images of Centaurus A since 1999. This incredible galaxy has an enormous jet emanating from the Galaxy’s supermassive black hole at its centre. Each time the galaxy is imaged new techniques can be employed giving more and more detail of this galaxy. The latest image seen above demonstrates a central dust lane. This is thought to be due to a collision with a smaller galaxy millions of years ago.
