Ganymede, The Largest Moon In The Solar System Is Mapped

Ganymede map.jpg

Galileo Galilei first discovered four moons orbiting Jupiter over 400 years ago. The largest of these moons is Ganymede. Data collected by the Voyager missions and then by the Galileo orbiter have been put together to creat a geological map of the surface of the icy moon. This map is helping planetary scientists to understand more about the evolution of this distant world that will hopefully help future observations from spacecraft like the ESA’s Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer that is due to arrive in 2032.
